How long will it stay at USD 100?
The rate set in law is USD 200. A 50% discount holds it at USD 100 from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2027. Nothing has been announced for later dates, so for trips from September 2027 we confirm the rate before you pay.
What does the SDF pay for?
It goes to the government, not to us or your hotel, and funds free healthcare and education, conservation and infrastructure. It is separate from the one-off USD 40 visa fee.
Do you get it back if you cancel or leave early?
Yes. The Department of Immigration refunds the SDF for any nights you do not spend in Bhutan, less bank charges.
Is anyone exempt?
Children under 6. Visitors who stay no more than 24 hours in the border towns of Samtse, Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar also pay no SDF, until August 2027; travel on past the town and the normal rate applies. More in entry requirements.
